Everywhere you turn there seems to be some new fangled manner of attracting visitors to your website. While many of the tactics may work, there is really only one tactic that will win out at the end of the day.

Search engine optimization or seo for short is not some overly complicated algorithmic waltz that takes place between genius and computer. It’s simply a matter of giving your website the best opportunity to be indexed and served up to searchers.

It’s the difference between keeping a desk full of papers on it and trying to find a postage stamp in the middle of all that mess versus having all your documents neatly filed away in a file cabinet.

With everything in alphabetical, topical and numeric order, all you need is an index to look up what you want to find, then go get it. That’s probably about as layman is it’s gets huh?

Anyway keeping this thought in mind, while web 2.0 tactics are definitely effective and enhance the viewers online experience, everything is primarily communicated through text.

So if you want the search engines to find your site and serve it to your target market, be sure that your on page and off page optimization are relevant to what your market is looking for and deliver the best quality information you can on your subject.

If you give the search engines what they want, they will give you what you want… lots and lots of traffic.
